SMTP fails when sending through mailing list Print

Due to recent changes in our firewall, we do not support the origination of an MTA from our server. This change was brought about to eliminate the possibility of spam originating from our servers across port 25. Alternatively, you can use sendmail, located at /usr/sbin/sendmail, with the mailing list script.

Firewall Port Restrictions

Problem:

Outgoing Ports Are Blocked

Solution:

Gesatech restricts port access as a result of the shared hosting environment. In this environment, every account on a server shares a single IP address. As a result, most ports are blocked because no single account is assigned the IP address for the box.

To gain access to these ports, it is necessary to lease a dedicated IP address through Gesatech.

  • Purchasing a dedicated IP address allows your account to have access to these ports normally closed on the shared IP.
  • Other than opening ports, another primary reason for a dedicated IP address is a private SSL certificate.

Port Access:

In a shared hosting environment, where everyone shares the same IP, some ports must be blocked. We block access to certain ports to help avoid having security holes in the firewall and to allow us to monitor and control customers who attempt to abuse the different services that we allow to run through these ports. The majority of processes requiring specific Port Access typically are bound to the IP address which they are running on.

On a shared IP only one service could run through a specific port from that IP. We have only opened the ports for processes which we are running on our servers (web mail, cPanel, etc.). Purchasing a dedicated IP will allow us to grant you access to the ports you will need to run your specific services on. This applies to both outbound and inbound connections running on non-standard ports. If you have a dedicated IP and require ports to be opened, please contact us vvia Phone, Live Chat or by Opening a Ticket. We will add the requested ports with out any additional charges.

If you would like to Purchase a Dedicated IP, please log into the cPanel of your hosting account and click the Dedicated IP tab and follow the wizard to purchase. You will be charged and the dedicated IP will be automatically installed.

Note: Because of the IP address change you may experience a period of about 6-24 hours where your site can appear to be non-functional. This is the standard propagation time that is required to update your DNS throughout the world. Please note, your Temporary URL will also be changed and will be unavailable while the Dedicated IP is installed on your account. This is normal and you will be able to view your site by visiting your site using your new Dedicated IP within 4-24 hours.
